The Dashboard in WordPress enables you to access all the tools and categories for content management: Users, Settings, your own Profile, Menus, Widgets, Pages and Posts, and Statistics.

To access your dashboard, click the “Log In” link on your site, or add /wp-admin/ to the end of your website’s root URL in the address bar.

Depending on your access level, you may not have access to all menus or menu items or the authority to delete certain items.  For instance, only administrators will also be able to change the theme, the widgets in the sidebar and footer, add users and edit users’ status, etc.

The dashboard’s lists of pages and posts will tell you information such as the item’s title, author, date posted, publication status, and categories and tags associated with the item. You can make quick edits to an item’s properties, or enter the item and edit the content within it.

The dashboard contains a media library where you can upload a single copy of an image, document, or other file and place it on multiple pages and posts. Media uploaded into content while editing a post or page automatically gets filed here as well.

Over time, when working with multiple authors or editing your media, sometimes the media library gets cluttered with duplicates and different sizes of images, and this library may need to be cleaned out periodically. However, be careful – if you delete a duplicate image, it may be the only one linked to a particular post or page.
