Currently, the Edu*Rhetor.org website platform exists primarily to host projects supervised/conducted by Dr Tania Smith at the University of Calgary. The projects themselves are located on sub-domains of Edu*Rhetor that are not made public.
However, this page provides information about how the domain supports projects.
COMS 463 Student Projects for Fall 2011- Sub-domains
Edurhetor.org, a domain Smith purchased in 2011, is hosted on Bluehost, and it is used to house student and community web content projects in development through Smith’s university courses and community service roles.
Developing content within subdomains of eduretor.org enabled students and community partners to gain access to a wider range of WordPress templates and plugins than are currently available on wordpress.com, the free public blogging host used in the past for student projects. Under this system, the new online content could be more closely customized to the needs of the community, compared to developing the content in another platform or an offline location.
No links or addresses are provided for these domains here because these sites were accessible only to those who had the exact URL. They were not accessible via search engines. This provided a level of privacy for the content developers and organizations for site content in progress.
Each edurhetor.org development site was an independent subdomain. This meant that each website could have a completely different design, structure, and its own set of editors. Technical problems in one subdomain would not influence the site on the other subdomain. Dr. Smith and the team’s coordinator had administrator-level access, which was occasionally shared with partners and/or another student on request.
At the end of the project, site content was exported from the subdomain to a file that could then be imported into a WordPress installation on the organization’s real website or blog.
